Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele uploaded an image of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Marvel comics superhero Captain America, asking former President Donald Trump if he's “ready” to run against her.

It is not confirmed if Steele used artificial intelligence to generate this image, though numerous artistic errors common with AI-generated images are present in Steele’s post, such as the asymmetrical star on Harris’s belt. The image's background features a man who is also dressed as Captain America with a right arm coming out of the side of his head.

“Hey @realDonaldTrump,” Steele wrote. “You ready for this?”

Harris is now considered by many to be the likely replacement for the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, as President Joe Biden bowed out of his reelection bid on Sunday. Biden, along with numerous other Democrats and celebrities, have given their endorsements to Harris .

Steele, the chairman of the RNC for two years from 2009 to 2011, joined the Lincoln Project , an anti-Trump group, in 2020 and also endorsed Biden ahead of the 2020 election. He later stated in May 2024 that Trump was “afraid of losing” the election in November against Biden.

Prior to becoming leader of the RNC, Steele was Maryland’s lieutenant governor from 2003 to 2007. In 2022, he had seriously considered a bid for Maryland’s gubernatorial election but opted “to stand down this round.”
