Alex Trebek had millions of people giving answers in the form of a question for decades as the long-time host of Jeopardy! Sadly, he passed away in 2020 after a long and noble battle with pancreatic cancer at age 80. Those who invited him into their home for their favorite game shows for almost 50 years truly miss his quick wit and soft demeanor.
Trebek’s tenure on television may be over, but the United States Postal Service is helping keep his memory alive. The USPS chose to release a special Jeopardy forever stamp on July 22, which would have been Trebek’s 84th birthday.
“Jeopardy!” Host Alex Trebek Was Truly A Legend
A video shared by the USPS highlights Alex’s time on Jeopardy with clips and photos. Ken Jennings, who holds the record for the longest winning streak in show history and serves as Jeopardy’s current host, shared his thoughts on his friend and mentor.
“ Jeopardy! was always my favorite show growing up. I ran home after school every day to watch the smarty pants on Jeopardy and Alex Trebek. For kids like me, he was almost like a symbol of knowledge and authority.”
People reported Trebek’s widow, Jean Trebek, spoke at an event unveiling the new forever stamp in Los Angeles, sharing her pride.
“His life had such a beautiful impact on so many people around the world and it’s just a real honor for my family and I to be here with all of you to acknowledge that. Alex would have felt overwhelmed with humility and joy to receive such a distinctive tribute.”
