There is no doubt that the future is going to be all-electric, and just about every automaker out there is preparing to offer a full all-electric lineup before 2035. This means that the next few years will bring a lot of new electric vehicles and that pretty soon new gas-powered cars are going to be very rare. But, as it is the case these days, not all the future electric cars are exciting, and only some of them make us really want to drive one. Be it Porsche’s first all-electric sports car, or the electric Jeep Wrangler, it’s purposeful cars like that have our interest, and we can’t wait to see what they are capable of.

Porsche production manager Albrecht Reimold tells Automobilewoche that the 718 lineup, comprised of the Boxster and Cayman, will end production in 2025. Porsche has already been forced to retire the 718 twins in Europe due to more stringent cybersecurity regulations (and the Macan along with it). More stringent emissions requirements across the pond would have done the pair in at some point as it is. The 718’s electric replacement is underway, and while Reimold didn’t share further details on the upcoming models, it’s hard to imagine Porsche will leave much of a gap between the end of 718 production and the next model’s introduction.
