This year’s Olympics are slated to kick off in just a few days in Paris, France. Fans of the global event are excited about finally tuning in on Friday, July 26 to see the games in action. And some fans might be surprised to see one unlikely but familiar face carrying the Olympic torch: Famed rapper Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg definitely knows how to light things up. Now, he’s taking it further by participating in this year’s Olympic events. Multiple sources have confirmed that the rapper will be one of several Olympic flame torchbearers during the opening ceremony in Paris. He is scheduled to carry the torch through the famed Saint-Denis suburb in Paris, which passes the Stade de France, the Olympic Village, and the brand-new Olympic Aquatics Center.

“U gots to do it!!” Snoop said in an Instagram announcement of his future torch-bearing excursion.

The final torchbearer of the opening ceremony has not yet been announced. Several French celebrities are suspected to be taking on the task. In addition to Snoop Dogg’s trek with the iconic Olympic torch, several French names will also be carrying the torch through Paris. A few of those names include actress Laeticia Casta, director Alice Diop, iconic Paralympian Charles-Antoine Kouakou, and more. Ultimately, the torch will finally be placed in Tuileries Gardens, where it will stay until the end of the tournament.

Snoop Dogg Is Doing A Lot More Than Carrying The Olympic Torch This Year

Carrying the Olympic torch is a huge honor, but Snoop Dogg isn’t stopping there. He will also be present in Paris for NBC’s Paris Olympics video coverage with assistance from host Mike Tirico. NBC recently released a press release stating that Snoop will visit a number of Olympic events across Paris. He is expected to interview athletes and coaches and experience everything Paris has to offer.

Snoop is taking it all quite seriously, too. He was recently seen completing a 200-meter race at the US Olympic team’s track in Eugene, Oregon.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will begin this Friday, July 26, and run until Sunday, August 11.
