Space weather is staying active and giving North America another opportunity to view the Northern Lights. A G2 geomagnetic storm watch is now in effect for Wednesday, July 24. In addition to the watch, a minor solar radiation storm event is expected on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, a coronal mass ejection (CME) is expected to arrive at Earth, which will lead to increased geomagnetic activity. With the increase, the aurora borealis may become visible over some northern and upper Midwest states. It is highly unlikely we will see the Northern Lights in Missouri and Arkansas.

A G2 watch has been issued by the Space Weather Prediction Center . A watch at this level is not uncommon. The eruption of solar material occurred on Sunday, July 21.

On Tuesday morning an additional unusual space warning was issued. The Space Weather Prediction Center sent out a warning about a solar radiation event , saying “a low-level solar energetic particle event is in progress.”

Tuesday’s radiation storm is a result of CME activity from the far side of the sun.
