Dallas Cowboys Urged To Sign Former Pro Bowl RB

The Dallas Cowboys are set to feature Ezekiel Elliott like it’s 2016. However, with the running back now in the advanced stages of his career, adding insurance could be an appealing option.

At least, that’s what Adam Schultz of Cowboys Country believes.

Schultz has advised the Cowboys to sign former Pro Bowl halfback Latavius Murray to shore up their backfield.

“Now, Murray is 34 years old, so there is an argument to make about why Dallas would add a running back who is older than the entire group and hasn’t hit high marks in terms of stats for years. They already have that in Elliott. Well, Murray would be cost-effective, and last season for the Buffalo Bills totaled 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns from 79 carries,” Schultz wrote.

Of course, adding a 34-year-old running back is never a long-term play. However, considering the advanced age of Elliott, any insurance is good insurance for the Cowboys.

Murray showed burst during his time with the Denver Broncos in 2022, earning 703 yards and five touchdowns. If he can average a similar 4.4 yards per carry this season, the Cowboys might have found a suitable starting running back for pennies.

Dallas Cowboys fans desperate for moves from Jerry Jones

Put simply, it has been beyond slow for the Cowboys this off-season. Aside from adding Elliott and linebacker Eric Kendricks, the team has elected to skip most opportunities to wheel and deal. The team took part in the 2024 NFL Draft by pure obligation, but otherwise has procrastinated or skipped out on major needs.

At this point, fans are hoping to see something, anything from America’s team. Murray could be that head-turning addition.

CeeDee Lamb’s contract situation appears to be not any closer to a resolution, Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons also find themselves waiting on an island for movement. With training camps starting up across the league, the urgency to get some deals done is reaching a critical level.

Prescott’s contract contains a no-trade, no-franchise clause. Waiting any longer risks ending the negotiation with a need for a new quarterback in 2025.

If Jones lets Prescott walk, it sends a message to Lamb and Parsons that they could be the next ones looking for work. Of course, with those two, the franchise tag is on the table. That said, with only one tag to go around, Jones could be forced to choose as a result of his willingness to let Prescott’s fate linger to the last moment.

Will Jerry Jones continue to let time slip away for the Cowboys?
