Jets' Tight End Backs QB Aaron Rodgers in continual minicamp debate

June minicamp in the NFL isn't what it used to be prior to the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement. There's a lessened intensity in the practices, which resemble the OTAs sessions that occurred in the preceding weeks.

After skipping the New York Jets ' mandatory minicamp in favor of traveling abroad, quarterback Aaron Rodgers explained the difference between then and now while downplaying the buzz surrounded his absence. The four-time NFL MVP made the comments on the Pardon My Take podcast from Barstool Sports.

As it turns, out the Jets' starting tight end is in complete agreement with his veteran quarterback. Speaking at the podium on training camp report day in Florham Park, Tyler Conklin echoed Rodgers's points on the non-rigors of modern-day minicamp and offered words of support for the externally-criticized field general.

"We put this minicamp label on those last two, three practices. In reality, it's the same exact thing as OTAs. It always has been since I've been in the league," said Conklin.

The 2018 fifth-round draft pick played out his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Jets in 2022. Conklin has been the team's second-leading receiver behind WR1 Garrett Wilson since arriving in New York.

Set to turn 29 years old on July 30, Conklin was unfazed when Rodgers failed to attend minicamp prior to the summer break.

"That was never an issue. I mean he was here, I think, just about every single OTA practice," said Conklin. "Minicamp's basically just two or three more OTA practices, and I don't think anybody really batted an eye about it [Rodgers's absence]. But I guess it was fun media for a little bit."

The 40-year-old Rodgers is widely viewed as a team leader, especially by All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams . The franchise player spoke glowingly about Rodgers on Tuesday as veterans reported to the team facility.

"We got a great quarterback, who sets the standard every single day when he comes in here," said Williams.
