Apple Axes Spending Budget After Low Viewers on Apple TV+

Apple is planning to cut back its massive spending on Apple TV+.

The company has reportedly invested over $20B on shows and movies since the launch of Apple TV+ on November 1, 2019. That’s an astonishing figure considering Apple TV+ generates less viewing in one month than Netflix does in one day, according to Bloomberg .

“Apple services boss Eddy Cue has been having regular meetings with studio chiefs Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht to go over budgets, pushing them to exert more control over spending on projects,” reports the outlet.

Apple spent $500 million on Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon and Argylle alone, and has its most expensive series still to come in Severance season 2. The mind-bending drama is said to cost $20 million per episode. Here’s how to watch the Severance season 2 trailer.

Cancellations seem to be mounting up. Over the last few months, Apple TV+ paused production on Foundation ‘s third season, and pulled the plug on Constellation, The Big Door Prize, Schmigadoon!, Still Up , and Make or Break .

Critically it’s another story. The platform earned 72 Emmy nominations for its run of movies and shows, which is a new record for Apple TV+. The Morning Show is the most popular, with 16 nominations.
