(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) announced it has gotten a grant from national nonprofit Petco Love to support HSPPR’s lifesaving work.

Petco Love was founded in 1999 and has invested nearly $400 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts, HSPPR has received more than $1.4 million from Petco Love since 1999.

“We are so thankful for Petco Love’s partnership with HSPPR,” said Kelley Likes, HSPPR Interim President & CEO. “This investment will directly support HSPPR’s lifesaving programs for the pets in need in Southern Colorado.”

Petco Love also launched Petco Love Lost a national lost and found database that uses image-recognition technology to simplify the search for pets, according to Petco Love.

HSPPR shared the story of Henry Winkler a stray, feral kitten who arrived at the shelter at only eight weeks old to show the impact of grants like Petco Love’s. HSPPR said in addition to being quite hissy, his right eye had ruptured requiring medical care. With HSPPR’s support, Henry was able to recover and reciprocate love right back to HSPPR.
