Sonny got a much needed reality check from ex-wife Carly and fans are cheering.
On Tuesday's episode of General Hospital , Carly came over to Sonny's to let him know Special Agents Cates is after him. Sonny told Carly that he let Cates know to stay away from him. Carly acknowledged that the FBI agent has stayed away from Sonny so far but he’s on the "warpath." She also mentioned Sonny is his "main objection" and Sonny wanted to know what Carly meant by that.
Carly explained that Cates has something on Jason and told him about the time Cates dragged Jason away from his son Danny. Sonny threatened Cates saying he needed someone to beat that lesson into Cates so he'd mind his business.

Carly then warned Sonny not to go after Cates again. Sonny denied he had anything to do with the time Cates was beat up by two men. Carly also brought up him beating up Dex to which Sonny replied that hurting Dex is not "under the jurisdiction of the FBI." Carly disagreed, stating that Cates will use that against him. She asked Sonny if anybody else knew he beat up Dex in case Cates decided to talk to Dex. Sonny with a look of regret said: "Ava."
Sonny explained to Carly how Cates and Ava are now close. He also explained the tense situation between him and Michael when he asked his son to be a character witness at his custody battle trial for Avery. Sonny shared that he and Michael fought, and Sonny said things he regretted to Michael. He implored Carly to talk to Michael on his behalf to "smooth things over."
Carly refused to do Sonny's request and informed him that it's not her job to fix things between him and Michael. Sonny said that if Carly got them in a room together, they could fix this. Carly was not convinced and hit back at Sonny's suggestion of bringing the two in a room so he could yell and call Michael a traitor again. Sonny tried to explain his action by stating he was stressed. Carly told him that he pushed people away and asked him to name one person who would stand by him unconditionally. Sonny responded, "you" at Carly.
Carly's eyes got teary and she recounted how Sonny called her a traitor. She elaborated that their kids and life meant nothing to him when he said that to her. Before she left him alone in the room, she said to him: "I'm not cleaning up your mess, you’re on your own."
With that mic drop moment, General Hospital fans on social media were on Carly's side for laying it out there and telling Sonny this "harsh truth." On a Reddit thread for the July 23 episode of GH, a fan wrote: "D---... Right now, Carly is speaking nothing but the truth to Sonny." A second fan wrote: "One thing I will say about Carly is that she does tell Sonny the harsh truth." Another fan on X formerly Twitter said, tagging Carly's actress (Laura Wright): "Our years together, our kids together meant nothing. that's the way you wanted it, that's the way it is.
