When it's summertime, you might find even water's most unlikely friends flocking to it. There's no better way to beat the heat than to take a dip, running through a sprinkler, or having a water balloon fight, depending on how chaotic you're feeling that day...

On Monday, July 22nd, one Golden Doodle puppy got to have his very first sprinkler experience. It was new, it was cold, and he realized pretty quickly that he absolutely loved it. Luckily, his mom recorded the whole thing:

Arlo the Golden Doodle has his whole life ahead of him, and I just know that the sprinkler will be a big part of many summers to come!

Arlo is about 9 weeks old now; he's been in his new home for exactly eight days today! In that time, his new family has had to learn to deal with the puppy crazies, from chewing on everything to first zoomies and beyond. From what we can all see on his TikTok page, he's settling in very nicely!

One of the best things about adopting a puppy in the summertime is the fact that you can introduce them to water much easier than you can winter pups, which will help you in the long run. For example, Arlo is getting used to the sprinkler now, so when someone comes at him for bath time, he's less likely to freak out. As a Doodle, being an easy groom is important. They're getting groomed basically all the time!

    Are Sprinklers Good for Dogs?

Arlo is having fun, so obviously, the sprinkler is good for his heart - no one is debating that. However, whether or not to let your dog run amuck in the sprinklers is certainly something to consider.

A little run through the sprinklers won't harm your dog, and is generally okay as long as you're supervising. Try not to let them put their face directly into the stream of the sprinkler or breathe it in. Once they're done having fun, dry them off and make sure to get their ears in particular; otherwise, they could get infected . If you notice signs of aspiration, immediately notify your vet.

For Doodles specifically, you should be careful with letting them get wet; wet fur mats easily, and if you're not around to brush/comb through it, you could have a hassle on your hand. Lucky for Arlo, his humans were there to supervise every step of the way!
