Is there going to be a season 2 of The Acolyte? Release Date, How to Watch

Season one of Star Wars series The Acolyte concluded July 2024, but there might be more to come.

Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 8 features a major cameo that I definitely don’t want to spoil, but it seems the show is setting itself up for a sequel season. How likely is that, though? After all, the body count was high, and the finale wrapped things up nicely.

The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland replied “Nothing,” when asked by Entertainment Weekly what she has heard in terms of a second season being greenlit. “You have to take a break. Especially after something like this.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean another showrunner can’t step in and take over while Headland’s on a break, however. The Acolyte got more viewers than Andor , and that’s currently in production for season 2 on a reported $250 million budget, according to Forbes .

That said, Andor is a critical smash, with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Acolyte got an 80% review score, and just 17% on its audience score. The Acolyte is also far from a runaway hit. As per Nielsen, the premiere of The Acolyte was half the viewership of Ahsoka and 75% lower than The Mandalorian .

The Acolyte season 2 release date?

The middling viewing figures suggest The Acolyte season 2 is currently up in the air. The earliest release date would be no sooner than 2026. If Disney did greenlight it, what would the story be?

We’d likely see more of the Republic Senate, which was introduced in the final episode. We’d also probably get more of Vernestra’s backstory, which Headland regrets not incorporating into season one.

“That was something I kept trying to slip in, but there was so much. It's a really packed season, and I love that. My goal is to explore as many nooks and crannies as I can in the time I am given, and Star Wars is the perfect place to do that because there's nothing but good nooks and crannies.”
