    Flash flood warnings, flood watches issued in central Virginia due to heavy rain

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Multiple flash flood warnings and flood watches have been issued throughout central Virginia during heavy downpours Tuesday evening.

    According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the following counties and cities are under a flash flood warning until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23:

    • City of Richmond
    • Chesterfield County
    • Hanover County
    • Henrico County
    • New Kent County

    A flash flood warning means flash flooding is expected to occur in the affected areas due to excessive rain.

    A flood watch has been issued by the NWS for the following counties and cities, set to last until 11 p.m. Tuesday:

    • Albemarle County
    • Amelia County
    • Chesterfield County
    • Mecklenburg County
    • Orange County

    A flood watch means that conditions indicate flooding could occur.
