Jay Weinberg joined Slipknot as their drummer in 2013. He was the pulsing heart of the masked metal mayhem for a decade. Then, seemingly out of the blue the band gave him the boot. Weinberg reportedly learned he was fired from the band via phone call shortly before the band announced it on social media. His sudden ousting from the band had such an impact that the drummer is still dealing with it in therapy.

Weinberg talked about working through his time in the band and his sudden firing during a recent episode of the One Life One Chance with Toby Morse podcast. When asked about being fired from the band, he revealed he wasn’t ready to talk about it publicly. However, he has been working through it in therapy.

“Truth be told, I’m at kind of a point where I’m not quite yet really ready to talk about it, really,” Jay Weinberg said when asked about the split. “That’s not to dismiss the conversation, but I’ve spent time, and spend time, just processing the entire experience. The experience not being the last six months, but really the last 10 years,” he said.

Weinberg went on to say that he needs to do the work to completely process his time with the band and his sudden firing before talking about it publicly. However, he doesn’t know how long that will take. “I have a fantastic therapist who helps me,” he revealed. “Before I speak on it, it’s important for me to do the right work of processing these events that, you know, you spend 10 years exclusively dedicated to one thing. There’s a lot to process that on the other side,” he added. “I think there is definitely a time where I’ll speak to my lived experience over those 10 years. Just not quite yet.”

    Weinberg Moved On

After learning that he was no longer in the band Jay Weinberg said he would continue to make music. “I don’t know how, and I don’t know when, but I look forward to creating loud, passionate, and heartfelt music that we enjoy together again,” he wrote in a lengthy post addressing his fans. “Until then, know that it has been the joy of a lifetime to spend the last 10 years with you, sharing in our love of this special corner of the music and art world.”

He got his answer in March when he became the new drummer for Suicidal Tendencies.
