We all have rules for our dogs. They vary greatly, because our needs for our pets vary so greatly, but we have them. For example, no jumping up on the couch. No biting my toes while I'm asleep.
Or, for one Golden Retriever, no rubbing up on the walls. His dad hates it when he does that, so he usually refrains from doing it. However, dad was out of town last week, and it was just mom there. He knew mom would cover for him, so... just see for yourself:
Golden Boy Charlie is just like me. I, too, wait until whoever tells me not to do something is gone to do that thing. Who's going to tell? But, Charlie, I need to know: there are nearly 8,000 views on your video. Of those 8,000 views... what are the chances that one of them is your dad?

Charlie is, as his username states, the golden boy. He basically does what he wants and gets what he wants, with very few exceptions. Since starting his TikTok career, he's gotten himself a healthy fanbase of about 33,000 followers, with millions of likes across all of his videos to boot. Everybody loves him, particularly when he pretended he didn't know how to get onto the bed even though he does it daily.
In this video, Charlie has the post-bath zoomies, which are a normal part of being a dog. Every dog has their favorite things to do post-bath, like rubbing all up on your bed and couch until they're soaked in solidarity. Charlie's is rubbing up on the walls, but unfortunately, it's a forbidden love: dad hates it. He gets fur and dirt on the walls, not to mention how he most likely lives to knock stuff off of them!
Why do Dogs Rub on Walls?
Charlie is not the first dog to rub walls like this; my dogs do it, too, and yours probably do it as well. It's natural - weird, but natural. But, still, weird.
Dogs may rub on the walls because they're trying to dry off. They might also be trying to get something off of their coat, like a bug or something sticky. They might just be itchy and hoping the wall will help them scratch it!
You can tell your dog no to doing this, but during those post-bath zooms, you need to offer an alternative. Lay out a stack of old towels and the pup will go crazy! If you notice excessive wall rubbing, even when they're not wet, there could be a bigger issue, like allergies, fleas, a tick, or even the beginnings of mange. Be careful, and if it continues, contact the vet ASAP. Otherwise, the itching won't stop and your walls will never know peace!
