Starting your own plants from seeds can help you save a ton of money. Not only are seeds much less expensive than mature plants or seedlings, but you also get more bang for your buck. When you purchase a pack of seeds you can get dozens of seeds, each of which are a potential plant that you'll be able to raise and enjoy.

But before you run out and start planting seeds in the hopes of growing a beautiful fall garden, you'll need to remember that starting seeds, especially if you're doing it indoors and under a grow light, requires a special soil that will drain well while still offering the seeds everything they need to germinate and grow.

Last year I direct sowed all my brassicas and it did NOT go well. Now that the #greenhouse is up and running, this will be my ultimate germination station for the Fall plants 🥦🌽🥬 #fallgarden #gardening #homestead #garden #harvest

It's time to start thinking about starting seeds for your fall weather crops, according to @jessicabertolino_ , who says she likes to get her plants ready with her very own DIY soil recipe.

She dropped the mixture instructions in her video, including some helpful tips about how to get the best results (we've literally never thought of sifting our mix to get the big chunks out), which will help you when it comes time to plant your lettuce, cabbage, and broccoli, which are all cool weather favorites!

Want your fall garden to look as lush as your summer garden? Then you need to get started right now, adding these fall favorites to your yard.

    Plant These Fall Crops Today

While you may already know that plants like mums, corn, and pumpkins all do great in the fall , there are several other things you can plant today that you'll be able to enjoy as soon as the mercury begins to drop, including fall foods like sugar pumpkins, bush beans, and turnips.

But those aren't the only things you can get into the soil today to see a September or October harvest (depending on where you live). If you're planting seedlings or mature plants, you can actually add a whole lot more. That's because we determine which plants work best for a fall garden by looking at the required soil temperatures and the time it takes to germinate, so if you want something not on this list you can head out to your favorite nursery and see if they have some small plants to use instead of seeds!

Gardening Doesn't Have To Stop When Summer Ends

Obviously, there are so many ways to continue your growing season, especially if you live somewhere with mild temperatures that don't see a deep freeze until later in the year, if at all!

So go ahead and copy the OP's soil recipe and get yourself setup with the perfect place to get your fall crops started. We think you'll be happy you did!
