Katy Perry Is ‘Freaking Out’ and ‘Pointing Fingers’ Over ‘Woman’s World’ Backfiring, Source Says

Katy Perry has new music, and while fans were excited initially, their excitement has waned following the release of “Woman’s World.” Perry’s sixth studio album, 143 , drops on Sept. 20, 2024, and her first single came out in July. Unfortunately, “Woman’s World” isn’t getting the accolades she hoped for. Here’s what a source said about Perry “freaking out” and “pointing fingers” after the single flopped.

Katy Perry is allegedly ‘freaking out’ over her single, ‘Woman’s World,’ flopping

Katy Perry and her fans had high hopes for “Woman’s World.” Unfortunately, fans are calling Perry out for the anthem, as they find the message dated and inauthentic.

Perry chose to work with music producer Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, aka Dr. Luke, on the track, the same producer whom Kesha sued for sex-based hate crimes and emotional distress. While Perry has had a longstanding working relationship with Dr. Luke, fans think it’s ironic that her woman-centric anthem features a producer who was accused of sexual crimes. Additionally, several men worked on “Woman’s World.”

A source told DailyMail.com that Perry is “freaking out” over her single flopping.

“Katy is freaking out right now because she is very aware of the feedback that ‘Woman’s World’ is getting,” an insider told the publication. “She is pointing the fingers at everyone but herself, but it is her own fault.”

In the past, Perry acknowledged that there would be public backlash for working with Dr. Luke. However, the insider added that Perry ignored the public for her new single, and she now pays the price.

“She was insane to think that Dr. Luke was a good idea,” the source added. “She didn’t listen to anyone. Instead of diving deep and creating art, she put something out that sounded like it could have been on an album of hers from 2010.”

Katy Perry defended the single as ‘slapstick’ and ‘on the nose’

Katy Perry posted a clip on social media of filming the “Woman’s World” music video. The clip shows Perry talking about how the song is “slapstick” and “a bit sarcastic.”

“We’re kind of just having fun, being a bit sarcastic with it,” Katy says while in costume with backup dancers. “It’s very slapstick and very on the nose. And with this set, it’s like, ‘Ooh, we’re not about the male gaze, but we really are about the male gaze. And we’re really overplaying it and on the nose because we’re about to get smashed, which is like a reset — a reset for me, and a reset for my idea of ‘feminine divine.’ And it’s a whole different world we go to after this.”

Fans remained unimpressed in the comments. “Satire pokes fun at power in a clear way,” British political activist Gina Martin commented. “If you have to explain the satire, it’s not working as satire and just works to reinforce the power system at play. Also, does the satire part also apply to working with an alleged abuser? We’re confused.”

She said that she feels ‘really connected’ to her ‘feminine divine’ with her new music

It’s unclear if Katy Perry will step forward and acknowledge the issues that her fans have with “Woman’s World.” Before the backlash, Perry discussed how the song felt like the “bridge” to her upcoming album. Additionally, she said she created this song while feeling “really connected” to her “feminine divine.”

“Now, that feminine divine has unlocked a lot of other things,” she explained while speaking on New Music Daily . “It’s unlocked this grounded sexuality, this strength.”

We’ll have to wait and see if the rest of Perry’s new album can make up for what “Woman’s World” lacks.
