SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local library will be closing for some long-needed renovations. The Nancy Kay Holmes Library will be seeing some major upgrades soon, including adding a handicapped entrance to the back of the building.

The front entrance will also be renovated.

Inside, crews will be installing a handicapped restroom and replacing the old carpet.

The lighting and windows will also be updated to be more energy efficient.

“We’re very excited about it. We’ve been fundraising for four years now and applying for grants. So we’re happy to be getting the actual work so we can actually do this,” said Scranton Public Library CEO Scott Thomas.

This project was funded in part by a state grant known as the Keystone Grant, which brought in around half the cost.

The library will be closing on Wednesday and will not reopen until sometime in November.
