NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — A surge of tropical moisture remains overhead across the northwest Gulf Coast, which means our daily downpours appear set to continue.

The New Orleans Airport is now over 50″ of rain for the year, which is 13+ inches above average. This time last year, when we experienced the historic drought, MSY had only seen 18 inches through July 22.

Another day of scattered rain is likely into Wednesday. A bit of Saharan dust will mix into the atmosphere on Wednesday, so this may hinder thunderstorm development just a tad!

As the week progresses, the western Gulf Coast will see heavier rainfall compared to our area, but we will still experience frequent showers and storms. The Weather Prediction Center has placed southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi within a Marginal Risk for heavy rain & flash flooding every day through Saturday.

With the added rainfall & cloud cover, highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 70s. Each day, there will be varying chances of showers and thunderstorms, ensuring that rain will be a constant presence throughout the week. Residents should be prepared for wet weather and potential localized flooding in areas with heavy downpours.
