JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A new program in Onslow County is aimed at making it easier for people to donate food.

It’s called PORCH and it organizes drives with different neighborhoods each month. All people have to do is leave their donations on their front porch and someone from the group will come and pick them up.

PORCH began doing drives throughout the county in April. They currently donate to United Way’s Chew Program. One neighborhood coordinator said she hopes to expand to other pantries and add more coordinators.

“It does not take a lot of time throughout the month, mainly two to three hours a month is the amount of time that it will take,” Neighborhood Coordinator Faith Hargett said. “And as a neighborhood coordinator, all you simply do is communicate the worry to your neighbors. Let them know the date and the time for the pickups, and then you will actually do the pickups for us from your neighbors and deliver them here to the local to program. That will be great.”
