Coroner confirms one woman dead in I-81 crash

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials confirm a woman is dead after a crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.

Troopers from PSP Jonestown told 28/22 News a crash shut down Interstate 81 Northbound in Pine Grove Township near mile marker 90 Tuesday afternoon. The crash is near the Lebanon County line.

Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan told 28/22 News one woman was dead on scene at mile marker 98 Tuesday evening.

Multiple others were also taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, Coroner Moylan explained.

State police say traffic was being diverted onto Route 72 while troopers reconstructed the scene.

The scene is no longer active and the area was closed off for four hours, troopers say.

PSP Jonestown and first responders are on the scene and confirm one helicopter was called to assist.
