OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) – Has your child gotten their back-to-school immunizations yet?

    Back to School Summer Fest

Schools throughout West Virginia require kids entering school in grades K-12 to show proof of their updated shots and immunizations.

Sometimes kids have phobias of needles and shots, which can be a problem when you take your child to update their shots.

The School Health Director for New River Health Association, Cindy Whitlock offered a method to help your kids conquer their fears.

“There are a lot of great videos on YouTube Kids, which involve cartoonish doctors, which can show kids what it’s like to go to the doctor and what immunizations mean as far as spreading disease and keeping everybody healthy,” Whitlock told 59News.

Whitlock said New River Health Association’s school health sites are open during the summer Tuesday through Thursday. They are accepting kids of all ages.

Whitlock also emphasized the importance of teachers and bus drivers being up to date with their shots.
