LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Democratic Party of Arkansas says voters are energized following their endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

The Arkansas delegation to the Democratic National Convention voted unanimously to back the VP last night at a virtual meeting of delegates. Arkansas party chair Grant Tennille said Monday night, voting took place almost immediately as the focus of delegates was clear right from the start.

Harris gains more party support for nomination

He said Democratic delegates are pledged, not bound like the Republican National Convention, but everyone was excited and ready to support Harris. That excitement stretched to Arkansans in general, according to Tennille, as voters have been reaching out to DPA headquarters asking how they can help. He credits the new, likely nominee as the cause.

“I think the fact that she is a woman and that she is a woman of color has caused an explosion in excitement in this race,” Tennille said. “I think you see it online, I think we see it in the people who are calling us.”

Tennille went so far as to say Harris’ candidacy could change “the calculus” in a few key areas and races, bringing new volunteers and donations to the Democratic Party that could turn the tide.

Who could be Harris’s running mate?

Tennille also addressed concerns that Harris has not been “vetted” by Americans following Biden bowing out. He reminded voters that they chose “Biden / Harris” in the primaries, and she’s still our current vice president. So, he says, Americans already know her and know she’s ready for the race.
