Just months after signing him to a one-year deal in NFL free agency, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Michael Gallup is retiring.

The Raiders announced on Tuesday that Gallup was placed on the reserve/retired list. The 28-year-old's retirement comes just one day before the Raiders' first practice of training camp.

Gallup was signed back in April with the Raiders looking to add more depth to their wide receivers room. He was expected to battle for the No. 3 wide receiver role with Tre Tucker. Making matters worse for the Raiders' depth at the position, fellow free-agent signing Jalen Guyton was placed on the PUP list on Tuesday.

A former third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2018, Gallup showed a ton of promise early in his career after surpassing 800 yards in two straight season (2019, 2020), including a career-high 1,107 yards in 2019.

However, Gallup suffered a calf injury and ACL tear during the 2021 campaign and was never quite the same. He tallied just 424 yards in 2022 and 418 in 2023 before Dallas cut him loose earlier this offseason.
