There aren’t many drive-in movie theaters left in the Puget Sound region, but taking their place these days are community oriented outdoor movie nights held in parks and other outdoor venues. These are family friendly affairs, with all movies rated PG-13 and under. Seattle, Kirkland, Bellevue and Tacoma all have outdoor movies this summer and they’re all free.

Bring picnic blankets, lawn chairs, snacks and drinks for a comfortable and fun evening.

    Kirkland

On July 27th, enjoy 80s movie night at Juanita Beach Park, with a double showing of Back to the Future and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Heritage Park will host movies on August 3rd (Puss in Boots and Practical Magic) and August 10th (Brother Bear and The Fablemans).

    Seattle

12 different parks around Seattle have movie nights this summer, ranging from Barbie at the Lake City Mini Park and Kung Foo Panda 4 in Occidental Square to Wonka at Ballard Commons Park and Labyrinth at the Cascade Playground. 28 movies will be playing from now to the end of summer. Check the website for details.

Movies at the Mural on the grounds of the Seattle Center kicks off July 26th with a showing of The Princess Bride. 4 movies play in August, including Everything Everywhere All At Once and Singles.

    Bellevue

Both Bellevue Downtown Park and Crossroads Park host movies this summer. Next up in the roster are The Mighty Ducks on July 30th and The Sword in the Stone on August 1st. Bellevue’s movies are particularly kid friendly, with everything rated PG.

    Tacoma

Tacoma will show movies in 4 different parks, starting on July 27th, with Mosaic at Wright Park. The following weeks, the parks will host movies and bonus mini festivals, with inflatables, food trucks and activities for kids at Norpoint, Stewart Heights Park, and STAR Center.
