Black beauty and technology go hand-in-hand. Black Radiance® , a leading beauty brand for women of color, is proving that with the launch of their most recent beauty app .

Recently, the brand announced it’s launching into tech with its first augmented reality app, Beyond Radiant . The app offers an immersive AR experience where Black women can be inspired and see themselves as the protagonists of their own stories. The brand celebrates diversity and empowers self-expression by merging innovative technology with makeup offerings that reflect every beauty consumer’s shade and experience.

The Mission Behind the App

Beyond Radiant helps Black women see themselves as the protagonists of their own stories through an immersive AR experience. The app, which launched in early June 2024, is not only made for Black women. It is also Black-led, with West leading the charge as the brand marketing manager. The Moore College of Art and Design alumna is utilizing her creative background to drive this new and groundbreaking marketing strategy.

“Beyond Radiant is the first of its kind!” West wrote on LinkedIn . “This has been a labor of love of mine for over a year, and it has finally come to fruition!”

The Beyond Radiant avatars connect generations of Black women. It also encourages users to embrace their unique beauty and strength. Inspired by trailblazers like astronaut Jessica Watkins and ice skater Starr Andrews, the avatars offer a sense of connection and representation.

Choosing Your Avatar

When you log onto the app, the first step is selecting your avatar. You can choose your own avatar or take a quiz that will match you with an avatar. The app asks questions about to your personality and preferences. Then, you will match with an avatar that aligns with your desired appearance and product choices.

The Beyond Radiant app offers several exciting avatars: The Content Creator, The Innovator, the Boss Babe, and The Champ. These augmented reality avatars will be your new digital BFFs. They help you tap into the most radiant version of yourself.

The goal of the avatars is to inspire joy, self-expression, and self-love. The best part is that the app creators designed them with women of color in mind. Here’s more about the original Beyond Radiant avatars:

The Content Creator

The Creator blends art with everyday life. Born into a family with a keen eye for design, she evolved from a high school trendsetter in art and style to an adult influencer. Her story of perseverance and creativity connects with aspiring creatives and influencers around the world.

The Innovator

Curious about how the world and things in it work, The Innovator has made makeshift labs, mixing spices and household items to see the reactions, since she was a kid. Her passion led her to pursue a career in science, with a specialty in biotechnology. Despite setbacks in her research during college, today, she is a leading researcher known for her pioneering techniques. The Boss Babe

A natural born leader, the Boss Babe started launching businesses as early as middle school. Whether it was bake sales or community projects, she not only raised funds but also brought people together. After college, she entered into the world of startups and faced her share of challenges. Her ability to think outside the box quickly set her apart in her field. Today, as the CEO of a thriving tech company, she mentors young women. The Champ

From an early age, The Champ found her calling on the athletic fields. Her natural agility and competitive spirit set her apart from her peers. In college, she led her team to a national championship. Now as a professional athlete, The Champ uses her platform to inspire young girls to pursue their sports dreams. How It Works

After you download the app, the first step is to select your avatar. You can manually select your avatar or take the quiz to find your match. Second, you’ll customize and choose your avatar’s makeup look.

Next, you can interact in AR. Share photos or take a selfie to match your look and to be a part of your world. Last, the app will make product suggestions for your avatar. With the help of data, the avatar-matching system will guide you to products that perfectly complement your avatar’s style.
