The 2024 Paris Olympics are nearly upon us and mark the first fully attended Games since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 Winter Games in Beijing was limited to "selected" spectators, and this one will be quite literally in the streets of one of the biggest cities in Europe.

Temporary arenas have been constructed across the city, setting the stage for competitions that will take place at French landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles. France built two new venues for the Games—an aquatics center and an arena for badminton and rhythmic gymnastics, in addition to the Olympic Village.

This year's Olympic Games will officially be held from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, Aug. 11. Here's a look at future host cities for both the summer and winter games:

Where are the Olympics this year?

The 2024 Olympics will take place in Paris. The city formally announced its intention to bid on June 23, 2015. After withdrawals that left only Paris and Los Angeles as candidate cities in July 2017, L.A. agreed to bid for the 2028 Olympics, effectively giving the 2024 Games to Paris.

It's the 100th anniversary of the 1924 Paris Olympics. The city also hosted the Games in 1900 and is the second venue, after London, to host three times. Two new sports will debut, breakdancing and kayak cross, and there's even a competition set to take place in the Seine River , which is questionably ready for the event.

The opening ceremony will also be held on the Seine, with a boat for each national delegation. It's free to watch for most spectators and several screens will be set up with speakers around the city to enforce the atmosphere.

Almost all of the events will be held in Paris or the surrounding area except for several soccer matchups and some water-based events. Surfing will be held in Tahiti, while sailing will take place in Marseille.

Below are the venues for the 2024 Olympics, plus the accompanying events for each:

    Future Olympics locations

We are now back to our regular cadence as far as the Olympics go, with one Games every two years. All of the Summer Games from 2028 to 2032 have been decided, while bids are still being considered for the 2030 and 2034 Winter editions. Indonesia, Turkey, India, and Chile all have confirmed bids for the 2036 Olympic Games.

An election of the host for the 2036 games is not expected to take place until after 2025 , but an announcement about the 2030 and 2034 games will happen on July 24 as the IOC votes on the matter from Paris.

    • 2026: Milan-Cortina (Winter)
    • 2028: Los Angeles (Summer)
    • 2030: TBD (Winter)
    • 2032: Brisbane (Summer)
    • 2034: TBD (Winter)

    2026 Winter Olympics: Milan-Cortina

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) confirmed the Milan-Cortina bid on Oct. 1, 2018, a year-and-a-half into the bidding process. A total of seven bids were initially submitted for the 2026 Games, but four withdrew after entering the candidature stage.

Milan-Cortina and Stockholm-Åre were the final two cities in the end. On June 24, 2019, at the 134th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Italian duo beat the Swedish pair 47 votes to 34 to secure the right to host the 2026 Olympics.

The Games are slated to take place from Feb. 6 through Feb. 22, 2026, and will mark the fourth time the Olympics have been hosted in Italy. It will be the first time hosting for Milan, however, and the second time for Cortina. The 2026 Games will take place on the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Cortina d'Ampezzo Olympics, which took place four years before the Rome Summer Games. Finally, the 2006 Winter Games were hosted in Turin.

Locations for the 2026 Winter Olympics include Milan, Valtellina, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Val di Fiemme, and Verona.

    2028 Summer Olympics: Los Angeles

The Los Angeles bid began as a bid for the 2024 Summer Games, but after three of five candidates withdrew, only L.A. and Paris remained. A compromise was offered to both committees to discuss awarding the 2024 and 2028 games, one to each city. Both sides initially opposed this compromise, but eventually it was conceded that Los Angeles would host 2028 and Paris 2024.

In 2028, Los Angeles will become the third city, following London and Paris respectively, to host three Olympics after hosting the Summer Games in 1932 and 1984. It will also be the first time the United States has hosted an Olympic Games since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

The Los Angeles Games will take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028. Venues include SoFi Stadium, the Rose Bowl, Long Beach Sports Park, South Bay Sports Park, Valley Sports Part, Crypto.com Arena, and more.

    2032 Summer Olympics: Brisbane

Brisbane's Summer Olympics bid was named the International Olympic Committee's "preferred candidate" in February 2021. In June of the same year, before the Summer Games in Tokyo, the decision to name Brisbane the 2032 host city was confirmed after a meeting of IOC delegates in the Japanese capital.

Though it will technically be winter down under, the Games will take place July 23 to Aug. 8, 2032. Thankfully, the mild weather in Australia should hopefully be a remedy for any doubts that the climate would be a problem.

It is the third time Australia will host an Olympics, including Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000. There are 37 proposed venues across the city of Brisbane as well as in several cities around Queensland. Melbourne and Sydney are also being considered to host events.

2030 and 2034 Winter Olympics: TBD

No one has secured rights to host the 2030 or 2034 Winter Olympics just yet, but several countries have demonstrated interest in welcoming the Winter Games in the future . After some countries withdrew, the remaining parties with a hand in the process are the United States (Salt Lake City), Sweden (Stockholm-Åre), Switzerland, and France (various regions).

A team of public officials and legendary sports figures will represent Salt Lake City in Paris the week of the Olympics opening ceremony to present their bid for the 2034 Winter Games. Utah Governor Spencer Cox and Olympic downhill skiing champion Lindsey Vonn are just two of the 21 names attending from the city's group.

Locals in Salt Lake City are having watch parties on the morning of July 24 when the International Olympic Committee will vote on the matter. It's possible the host for 2030 is announced as well on the same date.
