Wednesday, July 24: Summer heat creeping back in

The summer heat creep continues today and Thursday with highs in the upper 80s Wednesday and close to 90° Thursday. The current pattern features a weakening trough in the middle of the country and two areas of high pressure flanking the trough, one to the east and one to the west.

Rain chances will continue to trail off today as the areas of high pressure close off the trough. The chance for spotty rain showers returns on Thursday as a cold front tries to sneak in from the northeast, but the best chances lie across central and northeast Missouri. Opening day of the Ozark Empire Fair should not be interrupted by any rain and conditions look warm and quiet.

Spotty rain chances will shift from being southeast of the area to back over the Ozarks Friday through Sunday as the area of high pressure in the southeast moves in our direction. This will place us under the corridor of spotty rain showers between the two areas of high pressure.

This won’t make for a washout any day, but it will help generate cloudier skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Currently, Saturday looks like the wettest day out of the stretch.

Next Monday may be the first day since July 16th with most areas hitting 90°. The pattern that follows looks hot and mostly quiet as the summer ridge takes over the middle of the country. It definitely looks like summer sizzler weather with lows in the 70s and highs in the 90s each day.
