Five things spotted as Liverpool lands in Pittsburgh for USA tour including laid back Mohamed Salah

    By Matt Addison,

Liverpool has arrived for its pre-season tour in the USA since 2019 , jetting off from Manchester Airport on Tuesday afternoon led by new head coach Arne Slot . The Dutchman's first proper friendly will take place Friday (or the early hours of Saturday in the UK).

Later on Wednesday, the Liverpool roster will be put through its paces twice, with both a morning and an afternoon session planned, preparing for the match with Real Betis. Fixtures against Arsenal (Philadelphia) and Manchester United (Columbia) will then follow.

This is what Liverpool.com spotted as the Reds stars who have returned for pre-season so far touched down on US soil. We'll be keeping a close eye on proceedings during the next 11 days or so with the first glimpse of how Slot's team will play set to be revealed.

    Young players handed a chance

In the 28-man roster that Liverpool has taken to the USA , there are plenty of youngsters who are set to be handed an opportunity. Harvey Blair is one of those and he was sat next to Kaide Gordon on the plane.

Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho fall into the "young" category too, it would be fair to say, even though both are more experienced. They will need to impress to earn a place in Slot's plans for the upcoming season with big transfer calls lying ahead.

Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton bromance

Morton and Harvey Elliott were sitting next to one another on the flight and their relationship was clear to see with some jokes to the Liverpool media team ahead of departure. And Mohamed Salah and Kostas Tsimikas were sat together as their bromance continues to flourish.

Many of the senior players who were in the squad the last time Liverpool headed stateside have now moved on ( Jordan Henderson , Gini Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane and Joel Matip, for instance), but Salah very much still represents a mainstay.

    All smiles from Arne Slot

Slot, the new Liverpool boss, looked relaxed in his new environment as he led the team on their way. It will be a new experience for him to have quite so many fans in a completely different part of the world but getting used to that level of scrutiny in all parts of the globe will be something he needs to adjust to instantly.

Slot will address the media several times while he is in the US and it will interesting to hear more from him after the good performance in his debut press conference alongside Richard Hughes at the start of the month. There will be no state secrets given away, but Liverpool fans need to continue getting used to the new man at the helm.

    Mohamed Salah new look

As well as sporting a new shaved hairstyle this summer, Salah was also wearing a nice pair of sunglasses for the trip across the Atlantic. With a backward baseball cap, he too looked relaxed and ready for the next phase of pre-season.

Amid the uncertainty over his contract situation, the Egyptian does not look particularly stressed about anything right now. Hopefully that is a sign that his representatives can sort out a fuss-free extension.

    Liverpool players wander around Pittsburgh

After landing and checking into their hotel, the Liverpool players did some stretching and then took a walk around their new surroundings. Slot was pictured signing autographs outside on the street and the group of Reds no doubt caught plenty of attention from unsuspecting supporters.

Sepp van den Berg's height was clear as he towered above some of his teammates while it was warm enough to only be wearing shorts and T-shirts — a stylish, simple, red Nike design. As pre-season preparations continue to ramp up and the intensity increases, things won't be such a walk in the park.
