Wednesday's Weather Headline: Good news is more rain is still to come! Bad news is it may be a bit much for some. Also, it's going to be real humid next week... Read on for more details.
What we're tracking: Today, a very weak unorganized tropical wave currently over the W Central Gulf will move up into Texas going into the evening and overnight hours. This wave will clash with our existing stationary front that is nearby before splitting into a very weak surface low that will track NE along our coast with the other split system being the core of the wave tracking N through the state into the Plains. As the wave clashes with the stationary front and the upper level low still spinning over the Plains, scattered thundershowers will continue today with plentiful lift. The surface low part of the system will track along the coast overnight into LA tomorrow spawning more scattered thundershowers along its rear boundary tomorrow. Heavy rainfall for some up to 3-4 inches is still possible, prompting Alert Days. Going into the weekend, our upper level low responsible for most the rain this week will split and push away from us as high pressure forces it out. However, with high pressure returning, the Sun comes out and we begin heating up. Leftover rain in the ground will make for humid conditions and high heat indices next week. Also worth noting is the Atlantic has officially began waking up again as tropical development is possible for the first two weeks of August.
Next 24 hours: Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue today and tomorrow. Chances today at 80% dropping slightly to 70% tomorrow. Tonight, leftover isolated showers will be possible for some, but after 3 a.m., more thundershowers may develop in the area along the surface low boundary. Rainfall totals by tomorrow's end could top 3-4 inches for those who see heavier shower activity. Severe weather is not expected, although stronger storms could contain moderate lightning activity and gusts up to 40 mph. Highs in the Crossroads range between the low-upper 80s both days!
Extended forecast: With high pressure returning going into next week, skies begin clearing with some peeks of sunshine possible at times over the weekend. Heat returns with the Sun, but leftover moisture in our soils will keep us very humid bringing high heat indices... See below for your rainy 7 day forecast!
