Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has offered a positive update over the return of midfield star Enzo Fernandez next week.

Fernandez will link up with the Blues squad during their preseason tour of the USA on July 29 after being granted an extended break following Argentina's Copa America title win.

However, the former Benfica playmaker remains at the centre of controversy, amid allegations of racist conduct following a social media video post during Argentina's celebrations.

Argentina celebration controversy: Video chant captured after Copa America final

After Fernandez posted footage of Argentina's celebrations, following their Copa America win, his Chelsea teammate Wesley Fofana reposted the video on X with the caption, "Football in 2024: uninhibited racism."

It is claimed in the celebration video that Argentina's players made references to the family heritage of France's players, while alleged homophobic and transphobic slurs are also heard.

Fofana's stance has been supported by the French Football Federation (FFF) who condemned the incident and claimed the recording involved "racially offensive and discriminatory remarks".

Chelsea and the Premier League have launched investigations into the matter with Fernandez's Argentina teammate Alexis Mac Allister insisting the 23-year-old did not act with racist intent.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Enzo Fernandez?

Maresca was asked about the situation, and Fernandez's re-introduction into the squad, at Chelsea's US base and the Italian is confident there will be no issue.

"It is quite easy in terms of the player doing a statement to apologise. The club did the same, so I don't think there is something to add in terms of the situation. It is already clear and clarified", he said.

"I don't think when Enzo is back we will have any situations. Enzo clarified the situation, the club did the same, so there is nothing to add. They are not bad persons or human beings.

"I don't think there are any problems at all. I spoke with Enzo and all of them."

Chelsea kickoff their summer tour against Wrexham on July 24 in California ahead of clashes against Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid, before their return to the UK.
