Atletico Madrid are preparing to make a fresh offer for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to reports from Diario AS .

The Spanish club is keen on strengthening their midfield options and has identified Gallagher as a top target. Diego Simeone's side initially made a €20 million ($21.7 million) offer, but Chelsea are holding firm on their €40 million ($43.4 million) valuation of the player.

Gallagher was a key figure for Chelsea in the Premier League last season, making 37 appearances and contributing five goals and seven assists under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.

The 24-year-old also represented England at Euro 2024, showcasing his versatility and skill on the international stage. With only one year left on his contract, Atletico Madrid may believe Chelsea will eventually lower their asking price.

A potential Felix deal could pave the way for Gallagher

The potential transfer of Joao Felix to Aston Villa might facilitate Gallagher's move to Atletico Madrid.

Atletico have already seen an initial offer for Gallagher rejected but remains hopeful of securing the midfielder. The sale of Felix could provide the necessary funds for Atletico to meet Chelsea's demands.

Felix, who spent the latter half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Chelsea, has been linked with a permanent move back to the Premier League, with Aston Villa apparently showing interest. If this deal goes through, it could free up resources for Atletico to finalize their pursuit of Gallagher.

With interest from other Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Aston Villa, Gallagher's future remains uncertain.

However, Atletico Madrid's determination to secure the midfielder suggests that a move to Spain could be on the horizon.
