A group of children playing in the woods are said to have discovered the body of a man reported missing several weeks ago.

Norfolk Constabulary have put a cordon in place in an area in Costessey, near Norwich, UK on Tuesday, with six police cars and a forensic van at the scene. The grim discovery is said to have been made by children playing in the woods. They and their families will be given police support.

The body is yet to be identified but the family of Andrew Yourglivch, a 59-year-old who has been missing since Thursday, June 27, have been informed. A witness who lives nearby told Eastern Daily Press : “I spoke to the kids who found the body while playing manhunt in the woods. There was about 10 or 15 of them and I am guessing they rang the police around 4pm."

A police spokesman said the death is being treated as unexplained. A statement from the force read: “Police can confirm a body has been found in woodland in Costessey on Tuesday, 23 July. Officers were called to an area off East Hills Road shortly before 2.30pm following reports a group of children playing in the woods had found the body of a man.

“A police cordon remains in place and the death is being treated as unexplained. While formal identification is yet to take place the family of missing 59-year-old Andrew Yourglivch have been informed.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the cause of death. Further contact will be made with the families of the children involved in the discovery over the coming days to offer any support.”
