Hanover County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover County School Board has chosen Dr. Lisa Pennycuff to serve as its acting superintendent. This comes after the former superintendent, Dr. Michael Gill, announced his resignation last week.

Gill was with the district for nearly a decade. Pennycuff, who retired as the superintendent of Prince George County Schools earlier this year in order to help care for her mom, will assume her new role starting Aug. 5 until a permanent replacement is found.

In a statement posted by the school division , Dr. Pennycuff says in part:

“I am thankful to the Hanover County School Board for this opportunity to join the team of outstanding educators to serve the children, families and community.”

Hanover is one of several counties in Central Virginia in search of a new superintendent, including Chesterfield, Petersburg and Prince George.
