Back in 2021, Buddy Matthews was released by WWE, with him subsequently working for New Japan and MLW. However, as he remained a free agent, this allowed him to join AEW in 2022 and be put alongside Malakai Black and Brody King in the House of Black. And while there has been plenty of speculation over the past few years regarding him wanting to depart Tony Khan’s promotion to return to a post-Vince McMahon WWE, it has now been reported by Ibou of WrestlePurists that the Australian has re-signed with AEW.

35-year-old Matthews broke into the wrestling business in 2007, and after six years on the Australian indie scene, he signed with WWE and was assigned to NXT. From there he formed a successful tag team with Wesley Blake on the developmental brand, although his most memorable run in the company came on the main roster when he became a disciple of Seth Rollins during his Monday Night Messiah run.
