CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 22-year-old man has been indicted in connection to a crash in March that killed two sisters in Chesterfield County.

Police said 22-year-old Zyan A. Stevens was indicted by a Chesterfield County Grand Jury on July 15 for two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child neglect in connection to the crash.

Stevens, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, was served with the indictments on July 17. He is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

Police said Stevens was driving a 2009 Mercury Mariner north on Old Wrexham Place at around 1:54 a.m. on March 1 when the compact SUV ran off the road and hit a tree.

Sisters 5-year-old Ava Turner and 9-year-old Ivey Burch were passengers in the car and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Stevens was taken to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The sisters knew Stevens, but he is not related to them, according to police.

The sisters’ mother, Sydney Birch, told 8News that Stevens was babysitting the sisters that night.
