Will The New York Jets Trade Star EDGE Haason Reddick?

    By Matthew Schmidt,

The New York Jets landed Haason Reddick in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason, but things have not exactly gone according to plan.

Reddick is looking for a new contract, and he skipped mandatory minicamp and is also holding out of training camp as a result.

The Jets have seemed blindsided by this, as they apparently had an agreement with Reddick at the time of the trade that he would attend New York’s offseason workouts (via Connor Hughes of SNY). Reddick evidently declined an offer the Jets made to him, and, in turn, New York told him that a bigger offer would not be coming before the season.

That being said, the Jets did not rule out an in-season extension for Reddick.

Clearly, there was either some miscommunication or confusion somewhere, because none of this has worked out like Gang Green had hoped.

The situation has led to trade speculation surrounding Reddick, which is pretty hilarious considering New York literally just traded for him a few months ago.

So, will the Jets trade Haason Reddick?

Hughes is reporting that the Jets will absolutely not trade or release Reddick, even if he continues to hold out. They have communicated this to the Pro Bowl defender.

The problem is that New York is not willing to discuss any contract resolution with Reddick until he shows up to camp, so the ball is in Reddick’s court now.

The idea of the Jets trading Reddick immediately after acquiring him always seemed silly. They landed him for a reason: to help them win a Super Bowl this season.

New York’s organization is taking some heat for how it has handled this whole ordeal, but let’s be honest here for a second: do we really think the Jets would have gotten themselves into this mess if they knew this was going to happen?

Hughes’ report that New York had an agreement with Reddick prior to all of this occurring sounds about right. I know we all like to pile on the Jets because, well, they’re the Jets, but it seems hard to imagine they saw all of this coming.

Chances are, New York will eventually come to terms with Reddick and get him into camp. And if we are being totally serious, the Jets have leverage. Reddick turns 30 years old in September. He surely isn’t going to sit out the 2024 campaign and risk damaging his value in free agency next March.

The circumstances may not be ideal for either side, but smart money is on the Jets and Haason Reddick working something out this summer.
