Free Agency: Buddy Matthews signs new deal with AEW, won't join Rhea Ripley in WWE; per report

You can count another one toward the train of those choosing to stick with AEW going forward, as Buddy Matthews put pen to paper recently. The House of Black member has reportedly signed a new deal to remain with promotion going forward, per WrestlePurists, and that’s definitely good news for Tony Khan.

Having recently lost out on grabbing sought-after up-and-comers like Stephanie Vaquer and likely the Motor City Machine Guns, keeping a key in-house talent like Matthews is key, and especially considering he’d have options.

One such option is a fairly glaring one: WWE with Rhea Ripley, his new bride.

The two married in July and Matthews also has his own history with Triple H’s promotion, having wrestled in it before, so it made perfect sense for Khan to do whatever he could to prevent Matthews from hitting the open market to entertain other offers that would’ve included not simply WWE, but other promotions as well.

It's probably best anyway, considering he would probably have to resist putting both "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio and Jey Uso into early graves — given the current state of affairs on Ripley's surging Brutality Tour.

Matthews, a 35-year-old native of Australia, is enjoying plenty of success within AEW, and there’s little reason for him to turn his back on it at this moment, so he won’t.

He stays within the House of Black, and the house they call home.
