For the first time in 34 years, the core four members of Jane’s Addiction have released a new song together, with the reunited rockers releasing “Imminent Redemption” on Wednesday.

The track, which the band previously debuted live at a London concert, features the classic lineup of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery, the latter of whom hadn’t recorded a new track with his on-again, off-again band mates since the band’s 1990 classic Ritual de lo Habitual .

Avery is at the forefront of the reunion single, with his bass line guiding the track, adorned by Navarro’s trademark playing. Even Farrell’s lyrics seem to acknowledge how the music harkens back to the band’s prime, singing, “The sound is bittersweet, man.”

“It is different this time,” Jane’s Addiction said in a statement. “To have everyone back together, releasing new music. It’s time. Welcome to the next chapter of Jane’s Addiction. ‘Imminent Redemption’ is only the beginning.”

The single also marks Jane’s first new studio song in over a decade, following the 2013 one-off single “ Another Soulmate “; the band (sans Navarro) did play another new song, “ True Love ,” live in 2023, but no studio version has emerged yet.

Since their early Nineties breakup and subsequent reunions, Jane’s Addiction has released two studio albums, 2003’s Strays and 2011’s The Great Escape Artist , but neither LP featured Avery. The bassist did rejoin Farrell, Navarro, and Perkins in the studio briefly in 2008 to re-record (with Trent Reznor as producer) the band’s early songs “Chip Away” and “Whores,” but “Imminent Redemption” marks their first new material as a foursome since their 1990 LP.

“Imminent Redemption” arrives weeks before the reunited Jane’s Addiction embark on a North American tour in August supported by Love & Rockets. The band recently performed together in London, their first show all together in 14 years.
