RCSO asking for help identifying alleged shooter

ROCKINGHAM — Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office are asking for help locating a suspect in a fatal shooting.

According to a press release, deputies were dispatched to Lincoln Street, off of Midway Road, Tuesday, July 23 in response to a call of a gunshot victim.

Deputies and EMS reportedly arrived on scene to find a male with a gunshot wound. Despite “an extended attempt” at lifes-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

The sheriff’s office released a still image of the vehicle the suspect was believed to be driving. Investigators say it appears to be a white 2017-2020 Toyota RAV4 with tinted windows.

According to the sheriff’s office, the front left tire appears to be a “donut”-type spare or missing the wheel cover.
