    He had a hand at the most popular boybands to date, but it all came with a price. If you know anything about boy bands of the late 20th century, Lou Pearlman’s legacy is one hell of a ride.

    A purveyor of aircraft and blimps, Lou Pearlman shifted his focus on making a boy band that would surpass the success of New Kids On The Block. He recruited a couple of young men who had a lot of potential for stardom, and the formula worked. With lots of training and exposure touring the world, the Backstreet Boys became one of the bestselling boybands of all time.

    In 2007, Lou Pearlman was arrested for conspiracy, money laundering, and making false statements during a bankruptcy proceeding. He orchestrated one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history and left a sour taste to his former signees. Pearlman died in prison in 2016 while serving a 25-year sentence.
