Earlier this summer, Charles Barkley announced his decision to retire from sports broadcasting at the conclusion of the 2024-25 NBA season.

Barkley's decision came largely due to the fact that TNT's media rights contract with the NBA is up at the end of this coming season.

The league has fielded massive offers from streaming giants. But on Monday, TNT announced its decision to match one of these offers.

The Warner Bros-owned company reportedly matched Amazon's offer of around $1.8 billion per year in an attempt to retain the media rights TNT has held for the last 35 years.

In a recent video about the possible conclusion of Inside the NBA , NBA legend Magic Johnson shared his thoughts on the show — particularly Charles Barkley.

"That's why it's the best on TV, Inside the NBA ," Johnson said. "We can poke fun at each other, we can clown each other, we can have a good time with the banter back and forth. But at the end of the day, it's all for the fans; it's all for the audience."

"The best on TV is Charles Barkley, bar none," he continued. "There's nobody on TV in sports better than Charles Barkley."

The NBA now has a big decision on its hands. Either the league accepts one of the original offers, or allows TNT to retain its long-standing media rights.

If the NBA choses TNT, perhaps Barkley could rescind his retirement decision.
