‘Live’s Kelly Ripa Tells Rob Lowe He’s “Failed As A Parent” After Learning That His Son Has “Never Seen” ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’: “Culturally, The Most Important Movie Of All Time”
The two brought some father-son energy on Wednesday’s Live with Kelly and Mark . Once they sat down with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos , Ripa couldn’t help but note that John Owen is “literally a chip off the old block.”
Ripa replied that she “noticed that” but claimed she “wasn’t going to bring it up,” as John Owen said, “That’s all he can talk about.”
Rob then turned it over to the studio audience, asking if his son “look[s] a little bit” like he did playing Billy Hicks in the iconic 1985 film. Following a round of applause, Ripa teased that John Owen “just needs the saxophone and the bad attitude” to fit the bill. However, Rob revealed that his son has “never seen” St. Elmo’s Fire .
John Owen noted that he has, but still got in another jab at his father.
“They do make you watch it in school,” he said.
Later on, he disclosed that he’s also never seen Youngblood , but redeemed himself when he correctly answered which sport Lowe’s Dean Youngblood plays in the movie. Ripa proposed that John Owen come over to watch a marathon of his “dad’s greatest hits.”
“You need to see where you’re headed, where you’re going,” she explained.
John Owen teased, “He’s too shirtless in that movie. I don’t want to see that.”
