Blue Jays superstar 'unlikely' to be traded this summer according to insider

If you would've predicted that the Toronto Blue Jays would be sellers at the trade deadline ahead of the 2024 season, you would've surprised some people.

The Blue Jays entered the season expected to be one of the top teams in baseball. The Blue Jays have been trending in the right direction for years with some saying 2024 finally was going to be the year Toronto got over the hump and competed for a World Series title.

Things haven't worked out in the Blue Jays' favor and now Toronto widely is expected to hold a firesale over the next week. Toronto is in last place in the American League East and is 10 games under .500 with a 45-55 record.

Toronto will be open for business ahead of the July 30th deadline but reportedly is unlikely to trade star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

"Among the most disappointing teams in baseball, the Blue Jays blew the opportunity to salvage their season and have played themselves into offloading," Passan said. "Not expected to be among those moved: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., whose availability alone would add a shot of adrenaline to this deadline. With him and the injured (Bo Bichette) unlikely to go anywhere, Toronto can focus on its impending free agents."

It would've always been surprising if Guerrero was moved, but his name still has been mentioned in rumors and speculation over the last few weeks. The fact that an insider at Passan's level is saying a move is unlikely should be the final confirmation that he isn't going anywhere this summer.
