Newfoundland 'Upset’ After Girlfriend Gets Puppy So He Decides They’re on a Break

Not all dogs love to be in the presence of cute, little puppies. Some will outright avoid them for whatever reason. Maybe they're scared, or maybe they're just not into all the energy and barking. Chewy the Newfoundland feels this to his core as he just met his "girlfriend's" new puppy and, well, he's just not into the vibe.

The hilarious reaction, posted on TikTok by @chewythenewfie , shows the big boy in all his hesitance at the mere sight of the new addition. Watch Chewy's reaction below!

In the video that begins with, "My dog's girlfriend got a puppy and he's so upset about it," Chewy stands back—far back—from the fencing that separates him and his "girlfriend" neighbor after seeing there's a new puppy with her.

"Are you going to say hi?" he's asked. But his reluctance is clear. With one little grunt-y woof, he's done with this messy situation, possibly thinking this isn't the relationship for a cool bachelor like himself.

"The jealousy is real," the caption concludes and we can feel it! Poor Chewy doesn't play second fiddle to anyone, especially when it comes between him and love.

Among the Newfie's more than 132,000 followers, Chewy had more than enough support in his decision to step back.

"He goes over there he will leave with owing child support," one person joked. "Not dating single mothers!" another added. "Omg Chewy get over there and see your girlfriend!" another said, to which Chewy's Mom replied, "He never went. Walked back home."

Fatherhood isn't for this guy, but that's okay. He's still got our vote!

Introducing a Puppy to Your Newfoundland Dog

Maybe puppies aren't for Chewy, but thanks to the Newfoundland's temperament (which is generally sweet, gentle and great family dogs), they could be fast friends, if introduced properly .

The Newfoundland Club of America says introductions are the most important piece of the puzzle, so do it with great care. This means letting them sniff each other out, allowing enough time for the first meeting to happen slowly (and preferably over a long weekend), and watching to make sure the puppy's energy isn't overwhelming your Newfie, even if they mean well.

Some dogs take longer to warm up, while some never do. Personality differences happen, but the key is to know your pup. Give them lots of attention and praise so they don't feel the jealousy Chewy seems to feel—even if it's over a neighbor's dog! Anyway, maybe Chewy just needs a little "me time" to warm up to the brand new pup. Time will tell!
