Pixies have announced a brand new album called The Night the Zombies Came . It’s due for release just in time for Halloween — October 25th, to be exact — via BMG.
As its title and release date suggest, Pixies’ new album is at least partially inspired by the spooky season. Among the “disparate wonders” that inform the 13-track LP are “Druidism, apocalyptic shopping malls, mediaeval themed restaurants, 12th century poetic form, surf rock, gargoyles, bog people, and the distinctive dry drum sound of 1970s era Fleetwood Mac,” according to a press release.
Meanwhile, on the newly released single, “Chicken,” frontman Black Francis “personifies poultry, dealing with decapitation, and feeling like an actor of Zombie movies.” Watch the lyric video for “Chicken” below. Pixies previously previewed the album with the release of lead single “You’re So Impatient.”
The Night the Zombies Came also marks Pixies’ first album recorded with new bassist Emma Richardson, formerly of Band of Skulls, who replaced Paz Lenchantin earlier this year .
