The initial reactions and reviews to Transformers One are making the rounds, and they are considerably positive. Critics who caught the early showings of the animated feature hailed it as the “best” and “most interesting” film in the entire Transformers franchise.

Paramount recently held private screenings of Transformers One for critics, and their initial reactions were extremely positive. The film is slated to come out on September 20, 2024, and will be the first animated Transformers feature since 1986’s The Transformers: The Movie to debut in US theaters.

Matt Neglia of Next Best Picture described Transformers One as the best Transformers he has ever seen. “I almost cannot believe I’m saying this, but TRANSFORMERS ONE is by far and away the best Transformers film to date,” he wrote. “The trailers don’t do this justice. Rich in character & emotion with a deep reverence for the lore, it tells the origins of Optimus Prime and Megatron, tragically transforming once from brothers to enemies. Josh Cooley directed this animated film to perfection, down to the last comedic and action beat, all backed by an epic score & an excellent voice cast. One of the genuine surprises of the year for me.”

According to Russ Milheim of The Direct, the film was pleasantly surprising. “The animation was beautiful and immensely satisfying to watch,” he explained in his X (formerly Twitter) post. “Art direction and world-building overall were fantastic.” Milheim also claimed that Transformers One was “the most interesting Transformers project” he had ever seen.

Meanwhile, Steven Weintraub of Collider remarked that by screening the film two months before its release, Paramount demonstrated that they knew what they had. Weintraub went on to add that it was also the best Transformers film he had ever seen.

If the critical consensus remains positive when Transformers One comes out, the film can potentially impact the future of the entire franchise.

Josh Cooley directed Transformers One. The ensemble voice cast of the film includes Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Hamm, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, and Brian Tyree Henry.
