Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) grilled FBI Director Christopher Wray on awkward topics that included hinting at former President Donald Trump being caught on tape by late unlamented sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein.

On Wednesday, Wray testified at a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee to probe the July 13 assassination attempt that left Trump bloodied and Trump supporter/former firefighter Corey Comperatore dead as he shielded his family.

The hearing comes days after a disastrous House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing that resulted in the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.

But members in both parties also went off-topic to try and take shots at their opponents, including an exchange in which Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) made a show of attempting to enlist Wray in denigrating President Joe Biden.

Cohen followed Gaetz, and used some of his time to highlight the underage sex scandal that former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) brought up recently, and to strongly hint at the existence of “compromising” Trump-Epstein tapes by referring to “friends of his he posed for pictures with”:

REP. STEVE COHEN: …There’s been some questions about the FBI may be being weaponized. Did President Biden ever ask you to get involved in the case in Orlando, Florida, where Kevin McCarthy says that Mr. Gaetz is investigated for some sexual involvement with a 17 year old girl? Did the president or anybody, the Democratic Party, as Mr. McCarthy has suggested, weaponized you and tried to get you involved in that case?

    FBI DIRECTOR WRAY: No, sir.

REP. STEVE COHEN: Good. Thank you. Just wanted to make sure of that.

REP. STEVE COHEN: Jeffrey Epstein in the news a lot lately about involvement with certain people high in politics involved. Did the FBI conduct the raid on his townhouse in New York when he was incarcerated in New York? There was a raid on his East Side townhouse.

FBI DIRECTOR WRAY: Well, I don’t know about a raid. I know we executed a number of searches in the course of our fairly extensive investigation related to Mr. Epstein.

REP. STEVE COHEN: Can you tell me if during that search, if you came across and have within your possession the FBI tapes of him with other individuals that he might have s– taken in people in compromising positions —

FBI DIRECTOR WRAY: Yeah. I don’t I don’t know that there’s anything I can share related to that. I can see if there’s information we could provide and maybe get back to you on it.

REP. STEVE COHEN: If there were tapes of people in prominent positions — friends of his he posed for pictures with — possibly in compromising positions, it would be — the public, I think, has a right to see those.

FBI DIRECTOR WRAY: Well, I mean, how we handle evidence recovered in a criminal investigation has all kinds of rules that apply to it. I recognize the intense public interest in this subject, but we have to follow our rules. But I’m happy, like I said, I’m happy to follow up my team on it.

REP. STEVE COHEN: Thank you, sir, and I appreciate your service. And, and thank you for being here today.
