Lowndes County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the death of a juvenile that took place over the weekend.

An eight-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the BP gas station at the U.S. Highway 80 and Alabama Highway 97 intersection July 20. Deputies responded to a call and arrived on the scene where they found the victim had been shot.

Sheriff’s Investigator Tony Green said the shooting occurred at 114 Mandy Road in White Hall. The victim was transported to the Lowndesboro convenience store by a neighbor and a volunteer firefighter, he said.

“They were trying to get him closer [to Montgomery] so that a Mercy Flight or Haynes ambulance would be able to get him a little quicker,” Green said. The child, however, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We have an open investigation,” Green said. “We’re really not releasing any more information than that right now.”
