COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The Columbia County Board of Education approved a rolled back millage rate during Tuesday night’s special called meeting.

At that meeting, Superintendent Steven Flynt presented a new millage rate of 17.10 to board members. That’s lower than last year’s 17.20 rate.

“Tonight was the final hearing for the millage rate that the board has to approve every year. This will be the fourth straight year that they’ve been able to lower the millage rate. Now we’re down to 17.1. They went down a tenth of a percent. They were at 17.2. So that’s good news. So we’re looking forward to continuing the work with the budget this next year,” said Dr. Flynt.

The first day of school in Columbia County is August 5th.
